‘Biophilic Tech’: clean aesthetics and discreet technology elements

Employees are now encouraged to choose their workspaces based on task requirements, promoting adaptability and flexibility.

Says Irene Snel, Interior Designer @D/DOCK.

The Siemens Energy office in Assen presented a unique challenge: merging two separate floors into a cohesive workspace while maintaining the original employee count. In the absence of a traditional reception, we developed a welcoming and intuitive layout, guiding individuals to the lounge area independently.

To kickstart the project, we organised a workshop with a Siemens Energy team to delve into the organisation’s core values: nurturing a collaborative culture, supporting workplace inclusivity, and prioritising employee wellbeing, all encapsulated in the overarching theme of Siemens Energy global workplace strategy ‘Better Together’.

The design concept of ‘Biophilic Tech’ draws inspiration from the harmonious relationship between nature and technology, with clean aesthetics and discreet technology elements, whilst encouraging movement and interaction to create a lively atmosphere. In line with the client’s circular ambitions, we repurposed glass walls and doors, utilised second-life carpet tiles, and integrated second-life furniture. The primary objectives focused on modernising the space and enhancing functionality and interaction between colleagues, plus showcasing Siemens Energy expertise and spirit to clients. For this which we proposed a fundamental shift in working dynamics: employees are now encouraged to choose their workspaces based on task requirements, promoting adaptability and flexibility.

We couldn’t be happier to see this project come to life, witnessing employees enjoy a beautiful workplace that not only meets functional requirements but also sets a benchmark for innovation, sustainability, and employee wellbeing.
